Son of Reggae Legend to Tour NZ

Andrew Tosh, son of reggae pioneer, Peter Tosh, was so disappointed with the cancellation of this month’s The Legends Live tour that he is flying to New Zealand, regardless, to undertake a handful of hurriedly-organised performances around the country.

Chazz Edwards of Millennium Entertainment Ltd, said, “Andrew was so determined to perform in New Zealand, he asked us to put together some gigs at short notice. Despite the short lead-up, the response from around the country has been extremely positive, from both venues and reggae fans.”

In lieu of his own group, Tosh will be ably backed by one of NZ’s premier reggae groups, David Grace & Injustice. Half a dozen performances are envisaged although next week’s appearance at the Mangawhai Tavern is the only confirmed concert at this stage. Tosh will be NZ-based throughout June.

Andrew Tosh had already started his recording career when his father was shot dead in 1987 (Andrew sang two songs at the funeral). His debut album, Original Man, was released later that year and in 1989 the acclaimed follow-up, Make Place For The Youth, received a Grammy nomination. He has released seven albums to date.

Although a star in his own right, Andrew Tosh continues to honour his father’s legacy and his New Zealand performances will be divided between his own songs and those of his father.

For his part, David Grace is himself regarded as a pioneer of New Zealand reggae – he was a member of one of NZ’s very first reggae bands, Chaos, in 1978, before forming Dread Beat & Blood.

Tickets for the Mangawhai Tavern performance are priced at $47.50 (door sales $60), available from the venue or online at eventfinder.co.nz and dashtickets.co.nz. Doors open at 4pm, performance starts at 6pm.
