Coffee Lovers Support Court Theatre
Hummingbird Coffee has made a Re:START to The Court Theatre, donating over $20,000 to the Christchurch theatre company.
To coincide with the October 2011 opening of their new café in Christchurch's shipping container mall, Re:START, Hummingbird produced a new coffee blend and pledged to donate 30c to The Court Theatre from each 200gm pack sold.
By the end of trading on May 3, the initiative had raised $21,858 for the Christchurch landmark with Hummingbird nationally selling 72,862 units of its Re:START branded coffee.
Nick Cowper, general manager of Hummingbird, said he was thrilled with the support people have shown from around the country. "It's also testament to the fact that it's really good coffee."
Court Theatre Chief Executive Philip Aldridge says “this donation is hugely appreciated. To have Hummingbird and Re:START offer to support the cultural recovery of the city, even as they lead the revitalisation of the CBD, is exactly the spirit of cooperation that Christchurch needs moving forward. We raise our glass – and coffee mug – to them.”
The Re:START blend comprises six different origins of beans, all sourced from Fair Trade Organic sources and blended to produce a really full on coffee with plenty of depth, says General Manager Nick Cowper.
The Court Theatre has successfully relocated and built a $4.6 million theatre in Addington following the loss of its Arts Centre venue, and is currently raising funds to replace the numerous assets still inaccessible within the old theatre.
