Ian Grant retires from The Parenting Place

On May 6, the founder of The Parenting Place (formerly Parents Inc.), Ian Grant, celebrated his 73rd birthday. It also marks the end of his active involvement with the organisation which he started with his wife, Mary, back in 1993.

Originally called Parenting with Confidence, the Grants operated at first out of an office above their garage. Using the experience they had gleaned from decades of youth work and raising their own family, they put together parenting seminars that were extremely well received, right from the outset. Quickly they drew around them a team and broadened the scope of their operations. Now The Parenting Place has 72 staff around the country, offering a wide range of services such as community events, short courses, magazine, family coaching, workshops and high school programmes.

CEO, Bruce Pilbrow paid tribute to the work of the Grants: “Ian and Mary have an amazing combination of vision, passion and determination. Ian has an infectious enthusiasm that brings people alongside to help. This organisation carries their genes. As an individual he is a great communicator but now as he retires he leaves behind a whole organisation full of great communicators. His inspirational leadership has been replicated and embodied in the governance and management teams of the organisation. Most importantly, his heart for parents and children beats in every aspect of what The Parenting Place does."

Ian will be an honorary trustee of the Parenting with Confidence Charitable Trust. Mary and Ian will always be highly regarded as the founders of this great organisation.
