The Latest-the Big Street Party
There will be prawns cooked on the “Barbie” inspired by the Australian high Commission and pancakes and maple syrup by the Canadians as part of next Wednesday’s street party to mark 100 days to go to the London 2012 Olympic Games.
Wellington’s Hill Street will be closed off and there will be 17 street stalls which will be selling food from around the world. Wellington embassies and High Commissions have teamed up with Wellington Colleges to raise money for college sports teams by cooking favourite recipes from diplomatic missions.
Kicking off the big day will be a celebrity run with everyone invited from Wellington’s mayor, the stars from the Phoenix to leading politicians. The winner will be presented with medals by the New Zealand Olympic Legend Sir John Walker.
The British High Commissioner to New Zealand, Mrs Vicki Treadell says “it will be a great way to start off a great day. I will be running and I warn my fellow celebrities I intend to win.”
The big draw card wills the Samsung Olympic truck which will be full of NZ Olympic stories and London 2012 Olympic films. Plus you can have your photo taken wearing an Olympic Medal.
