A fun street
party with lots of exotic food will be held outside the
British High Commission on Wednesday April the 18th to mark
100 days to go the London 2012 Olympic Games
Kicking off the big day will be a celebrity run with everyone invited from Wellington’s mayor, the actors from the Hobbit to a few politicians . The winner will be presented with medals by New Zealand Olympic Legend Sir John Walker .
The British High Commissioner to New Zealand, Mrs Vicki Treadell says “it will be a great way to start off a great day . I will be running and I warn my fellow celebrities I intend to win.”
The big feature will the Samsung Olympic truck which will be full of NZ Olympic stories and London 2012 Olympic films. Plus you can have your photo taken wearing an Olympic Medal..
Hill Street will be closed off and street stalls will be selling food from around the world. Wellington embassies and High Commissions have teamed up with Wellington Colleges to raise money for college sports teams by cooking favourite recipes from diplomatic missions.
Alongside the Brazilian cheese bread and Swiss cakes there will be food by British Sherpa soldiers who are currently exercising in the South Island .
“Our Street Party will be the first event of its kind in the world to mark the final countdown to the Olympics . Already the London 2012 Olympic Games is the first sustainable games of the modern age.” says Mrs Treadell .
