Lotto Introduces New Zealand’s Most Eligible Bachelor

A young, single man from Te Kauwhata has become New Zealand’s most eligible bachelor after winning $26 million with Lotto Powerball on the weekend – the third biggest individual prize in NZ Lotteries’ history.

The extremely happy winner, Trevor, claimed his prize in the Wellington NZ Lotteries’ office today, and is going to take a few months to think about what he’s going to do with his future.

“I’m going to keep working in the meantime. But I said to my Mum ‘you never have to work again’”, said Trevor.

The family all got together for a Sunday roast after finding out about Trevor’s windfall but were too nervous and excited to drink anything.

“My bank account balance is now longer than my telephone number – it still doesn’t feel real yet,” he added.

This week’s winning Lotto Powerball ticket was sold at Te Kauwhata Four Square Foodmarket. The prize is made up of $333,333 from Lotto First Division, and $26,264,932 million from Powerball First Division.

The store owner/operator, Jesal Patel, says the past couple of days have been crazy with locals and media all trying to find out who the winner is.

“It’s so exciting for our small community, and everyone is so happy. This is the best thing that could’ve happened to the town – it really puts us on the map,” he says.

The New Plymouth Lotto Strike Four winners also popped in to the Wellington office today to collect their $1,035,186 prize. The happy couple said they’d been buying Lotto tickets for years, so had planned what they’d do with a big win every week – and this week was no exception.

“We always get annoyed seeing those winners lose all their money, so we want to set up a business that will set up our kids for life,” say the winners.

“We’ve been planning what we’d do if we won for ages, and we know a small business will secure our children’s futures, and help out our family too.”

The winning Lotto Strike ticket was sold at Pak ’N’ Save New Plymouth.

There were two other Lotto winners, also winning a $333,333 share of Lotto First Division. The tickets were sold at Pak ‘N’ Save Hastings and on our online channel MyLotto by an Auckland player – neither of which have officially claimed yet.
