Special concert celebrates women in jazz
New Zealand’s top female jazz talent will share a stage during a special concert honouring the stunning contribution women have made over the years to jazz.
Tessa Quayle, Toni Randle and Courtenay Washington will join jazz chanteuse Jennine Bailey for the one-off concert, which is being held on the first evening of the New Zealand International Jazz & Blues Festival, on Wednesday April 11.
Each singer will take to the stage to express their admiration and respect for the women who paved the way and influenced their personal journey into the world of jazz. They will perform such numbers as Feeling Good, Skylark, New York State of Mind, and Lullaby of the Leaves.
“Women have made a fantastic contribution to the genre of jazz over the years and it is fitting that we’ve chosen these four women to celebrate that. Each is incredibly talented with their own unique voice so the audience is really in for a treat,’’ says festival director Jodi Wright.
The Women in Jazz concert will be held in the GeoDome in the North Hagley Events Village on Wednesday, April 11 at 8pm. Tickets are available now through Dash Tickets. There will be some limited door sales.
