Tickets for record-breaking Magma Short Film Festival

26 March 2012

Tickets to go on sale for record-breaking Magma Short Film Festival

Tickets to this year’s record-breaking Magma Short Film Festival go on sale next week with the festival offering a wider selection for cinemagoers than previous years.

The Rotorua District Council co-organised event showcases short films competing in five categories including Best NZ Funded, Best NZ Self Funded, Best Animation, Best International, and the Magma Supreme Award.

RDC community arts officer and festival co-founder Kiri Jarden says this year’s festival attracted a record number of entries from New Zealand and around the world and they were of such a high quality that it was difficult to select just a few.

“In the past the festival has been held over three days. However due to the increased number of entries and such a fantastic calibre, this year’s festival will be spread out over six days at multi-venues.”

Art and experimental films will be exhibited at Red Spot Gallery from 23 April, premier narrative shorts at Rotorua Civic Theatre on 27, 28 and 29 April, while Basement Cinema will host animation and documentary programmes.

Ms Jarden says films to watch out for include Oscar-nominated animation A Morning Stroll which follows a chicken on a regular city jaunt, and Cannes Critic Week winner New Zealand film Meathead.

Tickets for the Civic Theatre programme are on sale from Monday 2 April through Ticketmaster. The Red Spot programme is free, while tickets to the Basement programme will be available soon from the Hinemoa St basement Cinema.

The Magma Short Film Festival is being held from Monday 23 to Sunday 29 April.
