Kiwi thoroughbreds to kickstart
Mondays
Thoroughbred racing fans will be able to kickstart their week when New Zealand thoroughbred racing moves to regular Monday domestic meetings from March 5.
In addition to the NZ Thoroughbred Racing initiative to bring gallops racing to Mondays, the domestic calendar change also delivers blocks of selected Tuesday racing starting March 13.
Paeroa hosts the first Monday gallops meeting in March, with Hawera, Rotorua and Foxton rounding out Mondays for the remainder of the month.
The TAB is getting behind the move by offering a $20,000 Bonus Quaddie on domestic thoroughbred meetings every Monday during March.
Martin Saunders, NZ Racing Board General Manager Wagering, Racing and Sport, said the calendar change meant New Zealand thoroughbred racing would join domestic greyhound racing on Mondays, delivering more consistent punting opportunities throughout the week.
As another bonus, racing fans will be able to enjoy extra action from North America, including the addition of American harness racing from Meadowlands, from Sunday, March 4.
North American weekend racing will also expand to regular Monday mornings, giving punters the perfect lead-in to the domestic gallops.
