Colliers corporate off-road triathlon to benefit medical research for children
New annual event to promote team participation, wellbeing in spectacular natural landscape
Auckland, March 1 2012 — Seventy-two teams will gather at the starting line on Sunday for the inaugural Colliers
Corporate Team Off-Road Triathlon, a new annual event which will raise funds for Cure Kids.
Held in the spectacular surroundings of Long Bay Regional Park, North Shore, the triathlon will embody several values
important to Auckland’s business community, says Charles Cooper, Colliers International’s Auckland managing director.
“The event’s integral focus on values including team participation, health and fitness and personal challenge, together
with the opportunity to give to a worthy cause, has attracted teams from a wide variety of Auckland corporations.”
Vicki Lee, chief executive of Cure Kids, says the charity is delighted to be associated with the Colliers Corporate Team
Off-Road Triathlon, which will continue Colliers and Cure Kids’ long-standing relationship.
“Colliers has been a key partner of Cure Kids since 2005 and has remained a loyal and valued partner since then, holding
various fundraising events each year. This support allows us to invest in vital medical research, which has helped save
many young lives and improve the quality of life of thousands of Kiwi kids with life-threatening illnesses.”
Cooper adds that while individuals and teams will be challenged over the 500m swim, 12km mountain bike and 5km off-road
run distances, the children who benefit from Cure Kids’ investment in medical research are going through far bigger
challenges every day.
“Cure Kids aims to help find answers to the many cruel, life-threatening illnesses that devastate the lives of Kiwi kids
and their families, by working with scientists and clinicians around the world. So we’re encouraging triathlon teams to
‘do it for the kids’ – and for every kilometre they swim, cycle or run, think about the lifelong battles sick children
are going through,” he says.
Off-road format amid beautiful surroundings
Race director Alan Nelson says the event is bringing together a diverse range of Auckland businesses to compete in an
exciting new off-road event.
“Corporate teams of three will swim, mountain bike and run amid the stunning landscape, clean water and traffic-free
green spaces of Long Bay Regional Park.”
Access to adjoining private farmland, through the generosity of Todd Property, is a unique further attraction of the
course, says Nelson.
“The opportunity to access the Todd Property land will only happen once a year with this event, with the entire mountain
bike leg of the race and half the run being on the private farm. Coastal landscapes and native bush will also feature
throughout the course.
“This event is a wonderful opportunity to introduce the corporate community to the fast-developing sport of off-road
triathlon, while benefiting a worthy cause.”
