Maori Television: Christchurch Memorial Service
Maori Television will not be broadcasting the Christchurch Memorial Service on February 22.
Instead, the channel will screen highlights from last year’s Rise Up Christchurch telethon from 1.30pm.
Maori Television had offered its services to Canterbury Television to screen the service live so all New Zealanders could commemorate the anniversary of last year’s devastating earthquake.
However, Maori Television chief executive Jim Mather said once it became clear there would be a national broadcast there was no sense in having a second national channel screen the event.
“We are satisfied that all people in New Zealand will get to see the Memorial Service live to mark the anniversary of this significant event,” he said.
