St Patrick’s Day to Become Friendliest Day of the Year
Keeping to Irish tradition, St Patrick’s Day is renowned for friends and family gathering to celebrate life over a pint
of Guinness. This year, collectively with millions of people from around the globe, Kiwi’s are encouraged to attempt setting a world
record certified by GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ by marking St Patrick’s Day as officially ‘The Friendliest Day of the Year’.
To set this world record, Guinness is inviting fans to simply pledge online - via Facebook - that they will celebrate
true Irish friendliness this St Patrick’s Day to help make it ‘The Friendliest Day of the Year’.
Every year, millions of people around the world celebrate St Patrick‘s Day. “From festive parades, to parties at local
Irish pubs, the pikelets at your office morning tea and iconic buildings turning green, everyone and everything becomes
a little bit Irish on the 17th March,” says Fergal Murray, Master Brewer of Guinness.
In order to convince the representatives of GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ to award the certificate, Guinness must prove that millions of people have participated in the event worldwide By
tallying up the online pledges, as well as counting people at various St Patrick‘s Day celebrations, Guinness hopes to
set the record straight and mark St Patrick‘s Day as officially ‘The Friendliest Day of the Year’.
“Every year more than 10 million pints of Guinness are raised around the world in celebrations large and small, and even
more so on St. Patrick‘s Day. Despite the different ways each country celebrates this special occasion, one element
remains constant and authentically Irish: and that’s the Guinness. Kiwis love the dark red stout, and usually head out
to enjoy a pint poured at their local,” says Adrian Hirst, Guinness New Zealand
"We’re hoping that through this love of Guinness, and everyone becoming quintessentially Irish on St Patrick’s Day, New
Zealanders will really get in behind the world record attempt. We’re known to be a pretty friendly bunch of people on
this side of the world!”
