AMI Round the Bays 2012 Destined to Sell Out
For the first time in the 30 year plus history of Wellington’s Round the Bays fun run a sell-out field is imminent. Last
year, the first with the involvement of AMI Insurance as principal sponsor but Sport Wellington’s 14th year in charge,
was the biggest turn out yet, with 11,137 taking part. However, this year is already looking to eclipse last year’s
record.
Over 10,500 people have already registered to take part on Sunday 26 Feb, with a full 11 days still left until the
starter’s gun. The capacity for the event is 12,000, spilt across 10,000 for the 7km fun run and 2,000 for the ISC Lenco
Half Marathon. The organisers expect the remaining 1500 entries to be snapped up within a few days.
Event Director Craig Ireson from Sport Wellington attributes the interest to a number of factors. “We have been doing
some great promotions through our sponsors such as a first 500 giveaway with AMI Insurance, a pasta party at Southern
Cross Garden Bar and Restaurant, and of course the ever popular ‘work-out for free at Les Mills’. These promotions have
helped to spur people to enter earlier than ever and it has had a fantastic ‘snowball effect’. You only need to spend
some time around Oriental Bay or Evans Bay Parade to see scores of people in training” says Craig.
Sport Wellington encourages everyone who is planning to enter but has yet to do so to enter online today to guarantee
their spot at the start line. Go to amiroundthebays.co.nz to enter.
