Anti poverty group to hold benefit gig 4 February

Activist group Auckland Action Against Poverty is to hold a benefit gig on 4 February at the Kings Arms to help raise money for its campaigns this year.

‘We’ve brought together some great acts who are willing to donate their time and talent to the cause,’ says AAAP spokesperson Sarah Thompson.

‘Groups like ours find it hard to raise money from conventional sources, so we’re really grateful to the artists who are putting their talent on the line to help us fight attacks on the poor, just as our members put themselves on the line on the streets of Auckland.

$10 waged/$8 unwaged

• Heart Attack Alley – blues trio Caoimhe Macfehin (The Drab Doo-Riffs) on vocals, Kristal G on guitar, and Karl Steven (Supergroove, the Drab Doo-Riffs) on blues harp.
• Shitripper – fast and energetic hardcore punk with Justin, Kylie, Josh, Kolya, Berry and Brogan.
• Lubin Rains (of Vietnam War) – singer/song writer/guitarist doing his solo thing, country and folk inspired.
• Tina Turntables – Queen of DJ.
• Moppy – Lofi electronic sounds - ‘the twisted side project from Thom Burton of the Wilberforces.’
‘There’s something for everyone here,’ says Sarah. ‘We’re hoping to see a good turnout on the 4th, not just from connoisseurs who appreciate one, some or all of this eclectic group of musicians, but also from people who support our cause.

Fellow AAAP spokesperson Sue Bradford adds, ‘2012 is going to be a big year for our group as we face the reality of National’s attacks on welfare, alongside deepening poverty, homelessness and unemployment. This show is our first public activity for the year, and we’re looking forward to hosting a great night out – all welcome!’
