A
bird’s eye view at Jamboree
A webcam will offer a bird’s eye view of how well the girls put up their tents and what goes on at such a large gathering of almost 3000 girls and adults at this week’s GirlGuiding New Zealand jamboree in Rotorua – Tui 12.
Live footage from the
JCam, a new innovation for the Tui 12 jamboree, will appear
on the GirlGuiding NZ website
www.girlguidingnz.org.nz.
The webcam has been set up
by one of the volunteer helpers on one of the fences on the
perimeter of the camping site to give parents an idea of
what their girls are experiencing at such an amazing
event.
Parents can also view photographs and hear what
their daughters have been doing through the Jamboree
Facebook site. There are already photos of the girls leaving
their home towns.
More than 2500 Guides and Rangers
aged 10 to 18 are at Tui Ridge in Rotorua for the Tui 12
jamboree that started today (14 January) and ends on Friday
(20 January). Amongst the contingent are girls from Taiwan,
the Philippines, Malaysia, Fiji and Australia.
“Our
girls love coming to jamboree – they have so many
opportunities to try new adventures and Rotorua has plenty
on offer,” says Sonia Faulkner National President of
GirlGuiding NZ.
The girls from overseas join their
New Zealand friends on mud slides, BMX and mountain bike
rides, at a top team competition and trying rock climbing.
There will also be performing arts, cultural and techno
challenges to keep all the girls busy.
GirlGuiding NZ
jamborees are held every four years with the last event held
in Christchurch in 2008.
