Inner Tube hit New Zealand for their debut concerts
Surf’s up this February as Inner Tube hit New Zealand for their debut concerts!
Inner Tube is an experimental collaboration between Mark McGuire, a prolific US musician who has released over 30 solo albums and is a member of the band Emeralds, and the equally accomplished Spencer Clark from Monopoly Child Star Searchers and The Skaters. According to McGuire, Inner Tube is about the feeling of experiencing one’s life through the tube of a wave, longing for what that experience meant, then creating music to communicate and make that memory present. The idea was conceived while the duo watched the seminal Australian surf movie Storm Riders and decided to create a musical realization of 70’s and 80’s surf culture.
The project is being presented exclusively on this tour of NZ and Australia, with the thought of creating a second Inner Tube album while on tour. The soundtracks to these old movies have been imbibed and deconstructed into Mark and Spencer’s current music visions, which swing from krautrock to synthesizer instrumentals.
Known for their
outstanding and visionary use of guitar and electronics,
Inner Tube surfs the edges of musical homage to create a
sound best described as ‘post-everything surf music’ –
the musical equivalent of riding a near perfect wave.
McGuire will perform solo in his Altmusic tour as well,
presenting some of his outstanding guitar work.
“It's
music that wants to find its way into your life and do some
good, and I can't think of any good reason to resist it.”
