Dunedin, Christchurch tie in third place for charity gifts

Dunedin and Christchurch tie in third place for buying charity gifts from Save the Children New Zealand

Figures released today by the charity Save the Children New Zealand show that Dunedin and Christchurch residents bought exactly the same amount of gifts from the charity’s Wish List product range this year.

CEO of Save the Children New Zealand Liz Gibbs said the third-place tie was unusual, but nevertheless showed that residents of these regions were committed to buying charity-based gifts that would benefit others.

“Exactly the same amount of Wish List gifts were bought from Dunedin as Christchurch,” Ms Gibbs said.

“This is a great show of support for the work of Save the Children New Zealand, especially in Christchurch - which has experienced a number of difficulties this year.”

In order, the five top-ranking cities for purchasing Wish List gifts this year were:

1. Wellington

2. Auckland

3. Christchurch and Dunedin

4. Nelson

In order, the three most popular gifts across New Zealand were:

1. Goats

2. Teacher training

3. Mosquito nets.

Save the Children New Zealand sells 20 different types of Wish List products, which are grouped around the themes of health, education, earning a living, emergencies and play.
