“In every style [I Musici] bring the essential impulse of life… The result is playing of verve, stylistic purity and impeccable artistry.” The New York Times
Serenata Italiana, the Italian serenade, is the theme for a Festival concert by acclaimed Italian chamber ensemble I Musici. One of the oldest active chamber music groups in the world, I Musici was formed in Rome in 1952 and will make their first-ever visit to New Zealand in 2012 opening a 10-centre Chamber Music New Zealand tour with a concert for the Festival. In 1955, the ensemble was the first to record Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, selling more than 25 million copies, and making it one of the most famous compositions of the classical music repertoire.
In 2012, they celebrate their 60th anniversary, with a Celebration World Tour that takes in China, Singapore, Taiwan, Korea, Japan, Australia, Europe – and New Zealand. Immediately following their New Zealand tour, they will return to Rome to present a 60th anniversary concert at Accademia di Santa Cecilia.
Proudly presented by Chamber Music New Zealand, I Musici takes audiences on a journey of the Italian serenade, with music by Rossini, Respighi, and film composer Nino Rota (of The Godfather fame).
Serenata Italiana is at the Michael Fowler Centre on 28 February for the 2012 New Zealand International Arts Festival, Wellington, 24 February – 18 March. Tickets $48 – $88 available from Ticketek.
