Amazon Boardstore and
Sachie’s Kitchen join forces with EDEN to raise awareness
about disordered eating
Auckland, Monday 28th November 2011-
New Zealand’s Eating Difficulties Education Network, EDEN, has joined together with Amazon Boardstore Parnell and Asian Cooking School, Sachie’s Kitchen, to hold a ‘Love Your Body – Cook and Skate’ event on the 11th December 2011. The goal of the event is to raise awareness about disordered eating and ‘celebrating every body’.
Sachie Nomura of Sachie’s Kitchen is highly supportive of this initiative, ‘We have all had, at some point in our lives, body image issues; particularly in relation to what we see in the media on TV, in magazines and the like, so it’s a cause the team at Sachie’s Kitchen believe we can all relate to’.
‘We love the idea that health promotion can be fun, exciting and social,’ says Deb Schwarz, manager of EDEN, ‘We are ecstatic that our message is being felt so strongly by others and is calling people to action’.
The event will be showcasing EDEN’s Body Image Leaders (BILs) and the BILs programme. ‘Our BILS are trained to promote health messages in their schools and work towards preventing disordered eating, appearance bullying, and body image issues. These messages include; ways to improve body image, critical thinking, health and wellbeing, living actively and eating a range of nutrition,’ Deb says.
At this Love Your Body event, the BILs will be receiving skating lessons from pro-skaters (such as Justin Watene and Chey Ataria) and will be making and enjoying tasty food with the team at Sachie’s Kitchen.
‘When research shows that 71% of female youth in New Zealand are worried about their weight and that appearance bullying is on the rise, it is exciting to be part of something positive and preventative,’ says Deb. ‘The combination of skate lessons with communal cooking and eating shows that living actively and eating a range of nutritional food can be fun.’
