Children invited to paint ‘Green Communities’ for international competition
Auckland, 15 November 2011 - Young artists are being encouraged to demonstrate their passion for the environment in the 21st International Children’s Painting Competition, organised by Bayer and the United Nations Environmental Program.
The theme for 2012 is Green Communities, and children are asked to paint a picture based on these questions:
• What don’t you like about our environment – our communities, cities, forests, oceans and atmosphere?
• How would you like to see our environment – our communities, cities, forests, oceans and atmosphere?
The competition is open to children aged 6-14, and paintings must be done on A4 or A3 paper.
Entering the competition gives children the chance to win US$2,000 and a trip to the Tunza International Children’s Conference next year. The conference gives children the opportunity to become active environmental citizens and contribute towards the future of our planet.
Bayer New Zealand spokesperson William Malpass hopes the competition will encourage children to think about their ideas on environmental protection in important areas of life.
“This project could be a great end of term class activity or holiday project to keep kids entertained while encouraging them to consider their wishes, hopes and fears for our environment,” he says.
