OCTOBER 26, 2011: Auckland’s Avalon Biddle will put her latest international foray down to experience, a very worthwhile experience.

The just-turned 19-year-old from Orewa won a wildcard invite to compete in the 125cc class at the Australian Grand Prix at Phillip Island earlier this month, the realisation of a lifelong dream for the Kiwi rising star.

The Auckland Massey University student, the New Zealand No.2 last season on a Honda in the highly-competitive 125GP class, was naturally thrilled to be invited to compete at world championship level and thrilled to be able to take the opportunity to compare herself against the world’s elite 125cc racers.

However, it was adventure fraught with problems and she never really got going.

She failed to qualify for the main race on the Sunday after experiencing a succession of troubles with the bike.

“We were having trouble with the bike's electronics and were only averaging 191kph down the straight in the final session, while the fastest guys were reaching 240kph,” she said.

Then, to make matters worse, she crashed during qualifying and it was decided that it was better not to continue.

“Obviously the bike was not running and then crashing just compounded the issue, but the whole thing was a great experience,” she said.

“It was cool to ride with the world championship riders. I could keep up with most of them in the corners but lost out down the straights. That’s where I just couldn’t keep up.”

She will now return home to race the CBR600 of Team Wolf Pack in the New Zealand season and with her recent international experience to refer to, Biddle is sure to again be a title contender at home.
