In 2005 American flutist Deborah Yates experimented with layering haunting flute melodies over a driving bass and rhythm section. Meanwhile, Jon Mulvey, Jerry Marotta, and Prairie Prince started jamming and when Mulvey teamed up with Yates in 2008, they called the resulting fusion of world groove, acid jazz, funk and rock the VORTEX TRIBE.

DEBORAH YATES has performed with symphony orchestras, ballet/theatre orchestras and chamber ensembles worldwide. She has played solo at Carnegie Hall, for Austria's President and toured England and Scotland before piloting the Vortex Tribe and touring and performing with Jon Mulvey, Stuart Hamm (Joe Satriani) and Prairie Prince (the Tubes).

JON MULVEY was touring internationally at age 15. He went on to become a student of legendary guitarist Joe Satriani, has since performed/engineered on over 1500 recordings and for 10 years was instrumental in all facets of Mingus (alongside Dorian Mingus - son of the great American Jazz Musician and civil rights activist Charles Mingus). Mulvey has recently performed with Joe Satriani, Jeff Beck, Peter Frampton, The Tubes, Robin Trower, Montrose, Heart, AC/DC, The Radiators and Tina Turner.

Joining VORTEX TRIBE for their NZ tour and bringing hip-hop, dub and soul influences to her drumming is LA based Daria Johnson, plus New Zealanders Blain Fitzpatrick (bass) and Alan Burden (percussion).

Also performing are special guests JON MULVEY'S ROCKETHOUSE and DUE CUROI.

JON MULVEY'S ROCKETHOUSE mixes a little Jimi Hendrix with a touch of Jimmy Page and they recently opened one of the US's largest guitar festivals. DUE CUORI consists of Mulvey's flamenco guitar alongside Yates's flute. The groups recordings feature Tony Levin and Jerry Marotta (both of Peter Gabriel fame) and the duo opened this year for, amongst others, Al DiMeola and Lee Ritenour.
