CRC sponsors Speedshow with three-year contract

A new three-year sponsorship contract has been signed between the organisers of New Zealand’s annual automotive and motorsport expo, Speedshow, and the management of well-known automotive products and hardware brand CRC.

The move to a three-year naming rights’ agreement came after CRC put their name to the 2011 Speedshow, which proved to be the biggest yet. Nearly 24,000 people attended this year’s CRC Speedshow which ran over the weekend of 23 and 24 July at the ASB Showgrounds in Auckland.

The teams at both Speedshow and CRC are looking to grow the show’s proven popularity even further in coming years.

Aucklander Keith Sharp, who developed and has backed the Speedshow concept since the first event in 2007, says having CRC’s commitment to the next three events is an incredibly valuable aspect to have confirmed.

“The Speedshow team thought the 2011 CRC-backed event was our best yet with larger visitor numbers and exhibitors reporting many sales at the show as well as many potential future sales,” says Sharp.

“It’s fantastic to have Murray Walbran [managing director at CRC] and his team see such confidence in the show’s ability to provide car and bike fans with exciting shows that they proposed the three-year naming rights’ agreement.”

Hand-picked vehicles and special guests feature each year, creating a focal point fans across the many automotive and motorsport sectors.

“Our first year at the ASB Showgrounds in 2008 highlighted one of Kiwi race star Scott Dixon’s Indy race cars and we were also fortunate to have Scott personally visit the show that weekend. In 2009, we bought in the Batmobile from the Warner Bros. Movie World theme park on Australia’s Gold Coast.

“Last year, fans enjoyed seeing the tricked-out Nissan GT-R supercar and Ford GT of expat New Zealand racing legend Steve Millen and we helped Peugeot unveil their sleek RCZ coupé. This year, thousands of fans made the most of a chance to meet Kiwi V8 racing star Shane van Gisbergen and see a Lotus Renault Formula 1 car in New Zealand for the first time. Each of our shows since it started at the Telstra Pacific Events Centre in 2007 has featured millions of dollars worth of cars and motorbikes, brand-new models to historic classics, for racing or pleasure, so there really is something for everyone.

“With CRC’s help we look forward to continuing to find interesting, significant and just plain cool cars and bikes to take centre stage at each show. Their sponsorship also makes a considerable difference to the range of race stars we can invite to CRC Speedshow as our special guests.”

The 2012 CRC Speedshow is 100% confirmed to run over the weekend of 21 and 22 July, again at the ASB Showgrounds.

Sharp reports that several exhibitors confirmed their 2012 attendance within days of the 2011 show closing.

“It’s very exciting to have the support of major car marques such as Ford and Mazda, plus key industry players such as Century Batteries already. We’ve got great interest from exhibitors and it’s fantastic to work with them on plans for even more exciting displays, competitions and much more for the 2012 show.”

More information about the 2012 show, particularly for exhibiting companies, can be found on the website www.speedshow.co.nz.
