Exhibition a chance to kiss and makeup
There will be broken noses, bruises, and a few strange creatures on show at the Riccarton Club later this month, but it
won't be fallout from a Rugby World Cup final party gone bad.
The graduate exhibition by the Design and Arts College's (D) Makeup Design and Production students, Thursday 27th October at the Riccarton Club, will showcase their amazing
expertise, from body art, avant-garde and high-fashion Makeup, to special effects injuries and fantasy creatures.
The public is invited to come along to the one-night-only exhibition called Kiss and Makeup, which will feature a
catwalk model show of characters created and brought to life by each student, and displays of the students' portfolios.
Kiss and Makeup opens at 6pm, with a catwalk show of student creations taking place at 6:30pm.
Graduating student Samantha Smyth says her class "is excited to be able to celebrate after an incredibly tough year
following the February earthquake" "We have all overcome a lot since the earthquake to get to where we are now. It's
going to be fantastic to showcase our achievements and have live models displaying our creations."
Koa Minifie, Makeup Design and Production Programme Coordinator, says: "I am extremely proud of the students and what
they have achieved this year."
"The students have worked incredibly hard throughout a time of great stress due to the disruption of the earthquakes,
and have produced spectacular bodies of work for their portfolios," she says.
Koa Minifie says the exhibition will showcase the students' high level of technical skills and creativity, assisted by
millinery made by D fashion students.
"Enrolment are now being accepted for next year's D creative courses, which start in January at our new premises. I encourage anyone wanting to see the kind of dynamic
creativity they will get involved in at D to come to the exhibition and talk to students."
She says the exhibition is also a perfect opportunity for Cantabrians to get inspiration for this year's New Zealand Cup
and Show week in November, when D students will enter hats, garments and body art in competition.
"D graduates have a fantastic record of being finalists and winners in the highly competitive design events," says Koa
Minifie.
Winning alumni include 2010 D Makeup Design and Production graduate Jordon Turner, who took out the body art section at Addington last year.
A showcase of student work from Kiss and Makeup will be featured on the D website, along with student work from other 2011 graduate exhibitions.
