Placido Domingo Arrives In Christchurch Tonight
World famous international opera tenor Placido Domingo arrives in Christchurch today, with only two days to go before he and Welsh opera star Katherine Jenkins take to the stage of the CBS Arena in front of more than 8,000 people.
This Thursday's charity concert for the benefit of the Christchurch Symphonic Orchestra and the Court Theatre is close to sold out with only a handful of tickets remaining. They are expected to go by Thursday as the event has created an incredible buzz all around the country.
There has been much work behind the scenes to ensure it is indeed - A Night to Remember.' Craig Donnell, the Australian promoter says he is been overwhelmed at the response of the people of Christchurch.
"I have never worked with a more engaging bunch of people as the local production team. Nothing has ever been a problem only another challenge for which a solution must be found - an amazing effort from all involved.
"As if earthquakes weren't enough of a challenge, blizzards could not stop the show from going on sale. Being immersed in the local generosity and spirit has been a privilege. Without doubt I can say there is nowhere else in Australia or New Zealand that we could have got this underway as smoothly as they have in Christchurch," Craig says.
An 67 piece orchestra will perform with Placido Domingo and Katherine Jenkins, and a support crew of 50 people will have rolled out 6 kilometres of cabling, switched on 115 lamps and carried in 37 tonnes of equipment before the night is over.
