New line-up of talent show off their comedy chops!

Comedy Festival Productions present AOTEAROHA – Next Big Things!
Hosted by Ben Hurley

The 7th show in the popular AotearoHA series,

AotearoHA - Next Big Things! promises exactly that; a live comedy showcase of fresh faces; handpicked by the producers of the NZ International Comedy Festival and destined to be the Next Big Things of NZ Comedy.

Ben Hurley (TV3’s 7 Days) hosts a line up of up-and-coming comedians who’ve been earning their comedy chops wowing audiences with their killer material and fresh approach to funny.

Be one of the first to encounter Mo Kheir, who blew everyone away winning this year’s RAW Comedy competition. Having been likened to an early Chris Rock, this architecture student and part-time musician stands up like he’s been at it for years.

It’s not often we claim a South African for ourselves, but we’ve done just that with Urzila Carlson. Having only been in New Zealand for four years, she’s already been heralded by RipItUp for her “standout performance [and] side splitting” repertoire, nominated for a Billy T Award and won Best Female Comedian at the 2010 NZ Comedy Guild Awards.

Guy Williams stepped onto the scene as Dai Henwood’s protégé but at 6 ft 5 there wasn’t room in Dai’s shadow so Guy couldn’t avoid the limelight. He made a name for himself posing as a pro-whaler when he infiltrated TVNZ and was interviewed live by Paul Henry on Breakfast, eventually making the front page of the New Zealand Herald in what was dubbed as ‘The Great Breakfast Hoax’. His dry sense of humour translates hilariously into his stand-up.

You may be sensing a theme here about a bunch of multi-disciplinary over-achievers and Tom Furniss is no different. Breaking into the comedy scene through the 2010 Raw Comedy Competition, 2011 has been an incredible year for Tom. With a sell-out debut season at the Festival, Tom’s 48Hours filmmaking team Grand Cheval’s mockumentary about chumping, ‘The Child Jumpers’ was the Grand National Champ and he won Best Actor at the Auckland final. Tom’s natural sense of humour makes anything he says or does funny.

These are just the first cabs off the rank; the NZ comedy scene has heaps of talent to pick from, so you’ll be spoilt for choice. This is your chance to earn you bragging rights by being at the SKYCITY Theatre to witness the bright future of NZ comedy.

Filmed live for TV3.
