Shore Talent Quest – Live @ the Vic, Devonport
The Rotary Club of Devonport, in conjunction with The Victoria Picture Palace & Theatre (Vic), Devonport, is producing an exciting new talent quest: Shore Talent Quest – Live @ the Vic.
$3000 in cash prizes to be won, and the chance to perform at The Vic Unplugged on 16th November, and the Devonport Food & Wine in February 2012.
Interested acts and performers will be asked to submit their video auditions on youtube, and email the link, with contact details and age to: shoretalentquest@gmail.com by Sunday 16th October. This exciting Talent Quest, a first for Devonport, will be a professional event providing a fantastic opportunity for local talent to perform a wide variety of acts on stage in front of their community. We have every confidence that ‘Shore Talent Quest’ will be a runaway success, and will become an annual event as one of the highlights of the Devonport and wider Auckland community calendar. The event will also help to raise the profile of the Victoria Picture Palace & Theatre as a live venue, as it continues its scheduled restoration. The Gala Final will be held at The Victoria Picture Palace & Theatre, Devonport on Saturday 12th November from 6pm – 11pm. Heats will be held at the Vic on Sunday 6th November from 9am – 1pm. A celebrity judging panel will be announced shortly.
The purpose of the event is:
An opportunity for amateur performers to display their talent on stage in front of a live audience for a cash prize. Categories: a) 5 – 13 years (Primary), b) 13 – 18 years (Secondary and Intermediate), and c) Adult. All stagecraft such as Music, Dance, Comedy, Acrobatics etc. will be considered.
To raise funds for stage two of the Victoria Theatre Trust’s Restoration Fund. The Vic is the oldest cinema in the Southern Hemisphere: www.thevic.co.nz
To raise awareness of the Vic as a live venue and community resource. The event will be open to all ethnic and cultural groups, and will encourage participation by these groups to display their cultural strengths.
In future years the talent quest may be broadened to the wider Auckland community, using venues across the city.
