Seven top string players perform by candlelight
On the last day of September seven of New Zealand’s finest string players perform in a candlelight concert in Wellington during the REAL New Zealand Festival. The New Zealand String Quartet’s annual “candlelight” concert at St Mary of the Angels Church has been popular with Wellington concertgoers for many years. This year, New Zealand’s favorite chamber ensemble is joined by musical friends from the NZSO for a rich and varied programme.
For Strauss’s thrilling septet Metamorphosen, three NZSO musicians will join the Quartet – outstanding double bass player Hiroshi Ikematsu, Principal bass with the NZSO, alongside Andrew Joyce, Principal cello and Julia Joyce, Acting principal viola.
Hiroshi will also join the Quartet for the Dvorak Bass Quintet and the programme will be completed by John Psathas’s Greek-inspired string quartet, Kartsigar.
Where: St Mary of the Angels Church, Boulcott Street Wellington
When: Friday September 30, 6.30pm
Bookings at Ticketek.
Programme
Kartsigar for string quartet – John Psathas
String Quintet No. 2 in G major, Opus 77, (B.49) – Antonin Dvořák
