This Week In Freshlines
Spring powder for the weekend ahead. Fun park Is this you? Treble Cone Sofa ski camps round 2 Masters ski racing this Sunday - Fathers Day
Spring Powder
Another wonderful week at TC! We have enjoyed super fun soft and springy conditions for much of the week with harder snow on Wednesday then a dusting of dry windblown yesterday. Tonight we might see a small top up and then some fine weather through the weekend.
Weve had some super interesting stats come through with the tcpass. One dediated Treble Cone snow lover clocked 47 runs skiing the entire mountain on a general day out and on another day a staggering 26, 500 vertical metres! Not sure what condition his legs were in after that!!
This week we also hosted the Giant slalom, Parallel, Slopestyle and Big Air events of the University Snow Games. It was an awesome atmosphere with the students on the mountain and great to see skiers and riders of all levels competing to their best ability!
BIG congratulations to Jamie Adcock, a TC ski instructor who headed up north to the Chill series and won it! An outstanding acheivement. Rounding out the honor board Jess Oundijan was 4th in the womens and Alex Lyndon 10th in the mens. However not so good news for fellow staff member Campbell Smith who is out for the season after suffering a bad fall on day one.
AND this weeks mystery quiz. the scaffolding frame erected beside tower six on the Express was . . . Tourism NZ filming their snow sports homepage feature for attracting international tourists to New Zealand. Official endorsement of what we all know - the view is the best.
Now that its spring it is noticeable how finishing the day with a beer on the plaza becomes more prevalent. This years special is a bucket of four Sol mexican beers for just $20. Perfect for a plaza wind down.
Fun Park
With the Uni Snow Games the terraces at the base of the Bullet run in the Saddle have been shaped and some small features put in. It has created a great introductory level park for playing in and learning the basics on how to approach features.
Treble Cone Sofa Ski Camp
Camp weeks 3 4 kick off this Sunday 4th of September and the intense, focused improvement camps at http://www.treblecone.com/Snow-Sports/Ski-Improvement/Treble-Cone-Sofa-Ski-Camp.asp are a must for skiers serious about stepping up to that next level. This is what Alison had to say about her camp in early August.
Dear Klaus
Thankyou for a fantastic course last week. I have been on a high every since, not yet dented by getting stuck in Queenstown with the storm and a difficult journey back to work today !
I was absolutely blown away with your programme and the standard of instruction provided and have never experienced anything like this before. Yes and I had a wonderful time with Andy and I know I was so lucky to get him to myself in the afternoons.
If I could extract myself from work and home commitments I would be back down for your second course. This is probably going to be too difficult but I will definitely book again next year.
Thanks again,Alison Worger
Volkl Masters ski race
A reminder to all those who like to pit themselves against the poles, that the Volkl TC Masters is on Sunday 4th September this year. A two run Giant Slalom on lower Main st. Entry includes a Farmers lunch accompanied by Whitestone Cheeses and wine tasting from Amisfield which will follow the event. Ideally leaving time for a few fun runs in the afternoon. Entry is open on line now at http://www.treblecone.com/shop/default.asp?categoryid=7 or for those who are very disorganised the last resort is to turn up at registration before 9am. Inspection is at 9.30 with start at 10am.
Cheers and look forward to getting up the mountain this season!
