Bird Watchers’ Guide
As sure as the annual departure of the godwits for Alaska, the Early Bird has had his month of fame and is about to flap
back to his lonely nest. SO GET OUT NOW and buy your Nelson Arts Festival tickets to save $4 per ticket. Two people
going to four shows is a saving of $32 – maybe enough to book another show - toss a coin to see who goes.
Ticket sales are up on previous years with some clear favourites already emerging. We’re picking the Loons’ new cabaret
show Berlin Burlesque at the Theatre Royal to be our first sell out. There will be more, with the Masters Games in town
plus the rugby visitors. So get those tickets while you can and before the Early Bird discount ends on Sunday October 4.
Charlie Unwin is the Festival Producer and here’s why he’s looking forward to Random Acts of God and Other Stories.
I recently had the pleasure of seeing this show at the Christchurch Arts Festival being performed and my socks were well
and truly knocked off! Created in the aftermath of Christchurch’s devastating earthquake this is a show that is just as
much about the music as it is dance. A live band performs wonderful renditions of numbers from artists as diverse as The
Cure, Mazzy Star, Johnny Cash and Tom Waits while a quartet of dancers express the full range of emotions felt post
quake. Sexy, provoking, stylish and definitely unique, this is one of the best shows that I have been involved with in a
very, very long time. But don’t take my word for it… no actually do take my word for it – this is one show you won’t
want to miss!
Catch Random Acts of God at The Festival Tent, Thurs 20 Oct, and Fri 21 8.30pm

On the road
Where we bring you review notices from outta town and get the critics’ top picks on what we have in store. Fleur Elise
Noble has been performing her 2 Dimensional Life of Her in Los Angeles. Here is what Harvey Perr in Theater Los Angeles
had to say…
“Noble’s collage (of projected images, cut-outs, drawings, puppets, paper, and Ms. Elise herself in constant movement
somewhere in the space) creates a crisp black-and-white world, with more shades of grey in between than you might ever
have imagined, and, in its endlessly inventive way, continuously defies any expectations you might have. A bold
conflagration – the only flash of color in the film - tears apart that very world before Ms. Elise puts it all together
again, though, once again, not in ways that are in any way predictable. This is something to be seen and seen again and
We are staging 2 Dimensional Life of Her at the Nelson Musical Theatre from Thurs 20 Oct to Sun 23 Oct. Get your tickets
