Alice Cooper Returns with a New Album: Welcome 2 My Nightmare & Confirms Auckland Show Line-Up
29th August 2011
Alice Cooper Returns with a New Album, New Nightmare
The Long-Awaited Sequel to his 1975 classic out on September 23, 2011
Alice Cooper’s widely anticipated new album, Welcome 2 My Nightmare, will be released on September 23, 2011, the day after his Auckland show at Trusts Stadium on Thursday 22nd September.
Recorded with long-time collaborator Bob Ezrin, who produced the original multi-platinum Welcome To My Nightmare album in 1975, the album picks up right where they left off, with Alice trapped in his own warped mind.
The original release is an all-time rock classic that spawned a worldwide theatrical tour and certified Alice Cooper as a visionary trailblazer whose influence persists today in rock, metal, pop, punk, theatre, television, film and much more.
More than 35 years later, Alice and Ezrin have resurrected the horror and humour for a new generation.
“This is Alice’s nightmare 35 years later,” explains Alice, “Bob and I created this character and we know how to write for him. I play the part but we’re not writing for me, we’re writing for Alice. We kept the first Nightmare album very personal to us, on this one we found more humour and we were more open. This was our world and we want to present it to the fans. The original album was my first solo album after all those huge hit records with the original band and now that nightmare is exposed, this one can be a little bit more open. The music crosses all sorts of boundaries; we went where the lyrics took us.”
There is an array of collaborators on the new album, including original Alice Cooper members Denis Dunaway, Michael Bruce and Neal Smith reunited on 3 tracks; global pop superstar Keisha, who affectionately calls Alice “dad”; and legendary Alice and Lou Reed guitarist Steve Hunter, who is part of Alice’s current touring band and featured prominently on the first Nightmare album.
Special guests for the evening include New Zealand’s most outrageous rock band Head Like A Hole. Currently on tour in NZ the boys are celebrating their finest work to date - brand new album Blood Will Out, which entered the album charts at #8 and features new singles “Glory Glory” and “Swagger of Thieves”. The hardcore titans of NZ’s heaviest bad ass rock are proving they are back with a vengeance after an 11 year break and fans are getting everything that they expect and more from a Head Like A Hole live show – ripping guitars, pounding drums, brutal bass and Booga’s heart poured out in the way that only he can. The band may be older and more hirsute but are clearly able to rock harder than any of the young ones out there. All there is left to say is they’re ready – are you?
And just announced to round off the bill in New Zealand are Australia's best kept secret, highly acclaimed Sydney based 5 piece rock band Syndicate, who will join Alice Cooper for his Australian and New Zealand shows following their own successful local tour of Australia and the release of their debut self titled album.
Recording of the album took place in Los Angeles with some of the biggest names in rock: Jeff Blue (Linkin Park), Brandon Friesen (Nickelback, Sum41), Scott Humphrey (Metallica, Mötley Crüe, Andrew WK, The Cult), Mike Fraser (AC/DC) - just to name a few...and producing an album of iconic rock songs featuring collaborations with guests like Brent Fitz (Slash, Alice Cooper, Theory of a Deadman), Gil Sharone (Dillinger Escape Plan, Stolen Babies), Rowan Robertson (Dio) and Matt Sorum (Velvet Revolver/Guns N Roses) playing on the album.
And the results speak for themselves with the album entering the Australian charts at #4 and at #20 in the album charts. Syndicate have been steadily earning their stripes and cementing their reputation as a band to watch out for and they are thrilled to have the opportunity to come to New Zealand for their first ever show.
Described by Alice as a “shreikquel,” the album and show are sure to thrill fans and critics alike. Be sure to be one of the first of Alice Cooper’s New Zealand fans to hear the new album before its release at his Auckland show on Thursday 22nd September with special guests Head Like A Hole (NZ) and Syndicate (AUS).
