Te Huaki Puanaki Does It Again
Christchurch’s Prolific Maori Songwriter And Recording Artist Te Huaki Puanaki Does It Again
Three songs of
commemoration and celebration of the human spirit are to be
released by Te Huaki Puanaki on the weekend of 3 – 4
September, 4th September being the anniversary of that
fateful day one year ago, a date imprinted in the minds of
all Cantabrians, the day the first earthquake struck. The
Christchurch earthquakes have been a major force for change
in our lives and major events like this we must
record…Books have been written and movies have been made
Te Huaki says and I want to do my bit through my
songs.
The first song “Rise up” talks about the
pain and devastation that the earthquakes caused but it goes
on to celebrate the strength and fortitude of the people of
Otautahi-Christchurch.
The second song “Angels of
Mercy” takes the opportunity to thank those many
‘Angels’ who came from near and afar to help us, for
their constant help and caring as they carried us through
the bad times. His final song is in Te Reo Maori(Maori
Language) and tells the story of ‘Ruaumoko’ the
earthquake god of the Maori.Te Huaki reiterates that apart
from his love of music , it is his passion for Reo Maori and
its revitalization that continues to drive him to produce
songs in Maori.
Music is a universal language, it is
a vehicle by which all manner of emotions can be expressed,
emotions Te Huaki says he wanted to express through the
songs, and, he chuckles, in a language that most will
understand. I needed to convey thoughts in a spirit of
celebration…celebration that after a year we have pulled
through. Despite the pain, despite the trials and
tribulations we continue on….and we have so many people to
thank for that! Te Huaki would like to invite you to share
with him as he celebrates the launch of these songs.
Let us “Rise up” like the Phoenix from the ashes and
show our true Canterbrian fighting spirit. Saturday 3rd
