In between Rugby World Cup 2011 games in either Auckland or Hamilton, take a detour to the beautiful seaside town of Raglan in west Waikato and join the Raglan Art Trail Open Studio Weekend. The 'Artist Open Studio' event is being held as part of the national REAL NZ Festival.
Raglan's painters, potters, sculptors, photographers, jewellers, textile and mixed media artists will open their studios to the public for viewing from 10am to 4pm on the 17th and 18th of September. Come along and meet the artists, see their working processes and be inspired. This is a wonderful opportunity to see into the studio of an artist and to catch a glimpse of what goes into making their art.
A card with details about which studios are open is available at i-Sites in the Waikato. You'll also need to pick up a copy of the 2011 Raglan Art Trail Guide which has contact details, addresses and maps for the artists participating in the Open Studio Weekend. The Guide is available from the Raglan i-Site in Wainui Road, Raglan and the Raglan Old School Arts Centre in Stewart St, Raglan. At the Old School Arts Centre you'll also find working artists and exhibitions including; textile art using silk, wool, cotton; NZ handcrafted gemstone and designer jewellery; oil portraits, fine art and photography. The Clay Shed will also be open where you will see potters creating clay art creations.
The Guide also provides information and contact details on many other Raglan artists, enabling interested members of the public to make contact and possibly arrange a studio visit at a time to suit.
