Visitors and locals to benefit from high profile kiwi music concert on the back of Rugby World Cup 2011
People in and around Waikato are getting a major spin-off from the Rugby World Cup next month with goal posts not even in sight.
The Kiwi Cream concert being held at Claudelands Arena in Hamilton on Saturday 17 September is part of the nationwide REAL New Zealand Festival that takes place during Rugby World Cup 2011.
Kiwi Cream will feature top line New Zealand bands Shihad, Supergroove, Op Shop and the Kids of 88.
Kiwi Cream producer Pete Rainey says there is no way the ticket prices of $55 a head could have been managed without the support from the REAL New Zealand Festival.
“This is certainly a great chance for visitors to Hamilton, both New Zealand and international, to get a taste of the best of contemporary kiwi music at an incredibly affordable price. This is New Zealand’s rock royalty – it’s a not to be repeated concert at not to be repeated prices.
“At the same time people get to experience the new Claudelands Arena which is absolutely world class,” says Pete Rainey.
Pete Rainey says it is never easy bringing together a genuinely top-rate line-up of bands, whether they are from New Zealand or overseas. He says this opportunity has really only come about because of impetus created through RWC 2011.
“We’ve been able to put this concert together in a really affordable way because of the scale created by RWC 2011 with so many associated events. The people who will benefit will be those in Hamilton for this weekend,” he says.
Kiwi Cream is preceded by the national final of the Smokefreerockquest, 4-6pm, also at Claudelands Arena. From Auckland’s genre defying Get off the Grass to the poppy and polished Peasants from Nelson - hear the top six acts play off for New Zealand’s biggest youth music prize. Guests include chart topper Dane Rumble and last year’s winners, Waikato band The Good Fun. Free entry to Smokefreerockquest for all Kiwi Cream ticket holders.
