‘The Great Rugby Ball Drop’ to kick off before Fiji vs Namibia game
Locals are being encouraged to enjoy The Great Rugby Ball Drop at a fun family day out before heading to the Fiji vs Namibia match in Rotorua next month.
The Great Rugby Ball Drop is on Saturday 10 September at the Village Green from 9am.
The event is being supported by Volcanic Air Safaris who will be dropping 1,000 pre-purchased mini rugby balls from a helicopter over three targets and the owners of balls landing closest to each of the targets will win a special rugby package prize.
Rotorua District Council community programmes & events coordinator Kylie Lang says the Fiji and Namibia game kicks off at the International Stadium at 3.30pm giving locals plenty of time to enjoy celebrations at the Village Green before heading out to watch the rugby.
“The Great Rugby Ball Drop event offers heaps of fun for the whole family. There’ll be live entertainment on stage by local bands, kapahaka, Polynesian, and African groups, as well as 'Rotorua Entertains' performers and a dog tricks display.
“Other activities include a fire truck, mini jeeps, large inflatable slide, bouncy castle, OGO ball in paddling pool, amusement rides, and Rainbow and Fairy Springs characters, followed by the main event at 12.30pm.
“The Rotorua Craft Market will also be on so locals are encouraged to take a picnic along and enjoy a great day out.”
Mini rugby balls for the event cost $2 and are available at the Rotorua Night Market, the Convention Centre, and limited numbers will be available at the event. However people will need to get to the Village Green early to avoid missing out. Winners must be in attendance on the day to qualify for their prizes.
