Plenty for the kids at National Scale Model Expo in Wellington
Wellingtonians will have the chance to check out the work of New Zealand’s best scale modellers when Scale Models Expo
2011 is held in Lower Hutt over the weekend of 20-21 August.
Event organiser Ewan Forbes says there will be lots for children of all ages to see and do at the expo.
“Its not just about a static display, we want to ensure people can get involved with scale modelling too”, said Ewan.
“Hundreds of scale models of trucks, cars, planes and military equipment will be on display and there will also be a
model railway, giveaways for children and modelling workshops run throughout the weekend.
“The New Zealand National Scale Modelling championship is being held at the same time and this means the work of the
best model makers in New Zealand will be on display to inspire future national champs or just anyone who wants to take
up a new hobby.
“We’ve run the expo in Wellington every two years since 2001 and it has now attracted an international reputation. The
last expo held in 2009 marked the world debut of Sir Peter Jackson’s scale model company, Wingnut Wings.
“This year Wingnut Wings, which specialises in models of World War One aircraft, will be back with an exclusive preview
of 2011 releases, giving Wellingtonians the chance to be the first people in the world to see the new range and maybe
take one home,” said Ewan Forbes.
WHAT: ScaleModels Expo 2011 - Hundreds of scale models of trucks, cars, planes and military equipment on display, a
model railway, giveaways for children and modelling demonstrations.
