KBB Music Festival - 28 Years in the Making
• 15-19 August - KBB Music Festival Performances, Holy Trinity Cathedral, Parnell, Auckland
• 19 August - KBB Music Festival Gala Concerts, Holy Trinity Cathedral, Parnell, Auckland
The country’s largest regional youth music event will once again be the highlight of many young musicians’ performing calendar as the KBB Music Festival celebrates its 28th year.
More than 125 Concert Bands, Jazz Bands, Symphony Orchestras and Chamber Orchestras from 47 secondary schools in the greater Auckland region will be performing between 15th and 19th of August at the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Parnell, Auckland.
“The KBB Music Festival has attracted many of New Zealand’s finest young musicians,” says Dr Trevor Thwaites, Chairperson of the KBB Music Festival. “The Festival is recognized for the quality of the music that students perform, which reflects the commitment of both the students and their teachers.”
The Festival will be held in the professional acoustic venue of the Holy Trinity Cathedral this year for the first time, as well as having two adjudicators providing feedback to ensembles in all four categories of the Festival. “We are fortunate that we can call on such high levels of expertise, and the feedback will be double the quality,” says Dr Thwaites.
Formerly known as the Auckland Secondary Schools Band and Orchestra Festival, the festival was renamed the KBB Music Festival in recent years. The decision was made by the independent committee to honour its principal sponsor, KBB Music’s long-time support of the Festival.
“We believe in supporting our music community and providing not just great products and services, but also a platform for fostering the talent of our young musicians,” says Paul Skipper, Director of KBB Music. “We are proud to be playing our part in fostering the musical future of this country, and even more proud to be involved with the KBB Music Festival over the last twenty-one years.”
Open to the public are the adjudicated performances during the week which are free admission. “Whether you attend as a performer or as a listener, you will come away invigorated and inspired by the musicianship and exuberance of all participants,” says Dr Thwaites.
The KBB Music Festival will culminate to two highly-anticipated Gala Concerts featuring the best groups selected by the adjudicators. Gala Concert I at 4pm will feature Chamber Orchestras and Symphony Orchestras. Gala Concert II at 7pm will feature Stage Bands and Concert Bands. Tickets are available at the door - $15 General Admission for each Gala Concert, or $25 for both Gala Concerts.
