Top bands for Nelson Arts Festival
The entertainment flowing at this year¹s Nelson Masked Parade is being Œnotched up¹ a level thanks to support from the REAL New Zealand Festival¹s kiwi music tour.
Rugby World Cup Minister Murray McCully has announced the line up and the tour venues, with Nelson securing Midnight Youth and Knives at Noon to perform as part of the More FM Carnivale and Sonic 1903 Live, on Friday 7 October.
Nelson City Council Festival Producer Sophie Kelly says she is thrilled that the Nelson proposal to the REAL New Zealand Festival was successful.
ŒThis nationwide project was initiated in association with The New Zealand Music Commission to showcase New Zealand¹s top bands over the Rugby World Cup 2011 period with many applications from around the country,² she said. ³Securing two such highly acclaimed kiwi bands for The More FM Carnivale & Sonic 1903 Live Zone events is really exciting for Nelson ¬ I know they will be a great attraction for locals and visitors to the region and particularly to the many young people attending Sonic.²
Midnight Youth came together while at Rangitoto College on Auckland's North Shore. They are now based between Sydney and Auckland and will release their second album later this year, after their very successful debut album, The Brave Don't Run. They recently toured in support of Australian rock giants INXS.
Knives at Noon are an indie-electric-rock band based in Dunedin. They were formed in late 2007 and have turned away from the typical ŒDunedin sound¹ to incorporate more keyboards, creating waves with their catchy synth-rock sound.
Midnight Youth & Knives at Noon will perform as part of the Sonic Live Zone event on Friday 7 October from 8.30 ¬ 11pm. This event follows the Nelson Masked Parade, which launches the Nelson Arts Festival, October 7-24, with theatre, music and cabaret at venues in the city and at Founders Heritage Park.
The Nelson Arts Festival is produced by the Nelson City Council as an attraction for visitors and a celebration for locals. Programme launched tonight - August 5. ends
