Shirley Valentine Is Back In Town
Auckland’s theatre audiences have the chance to see acclaimed British-born actor Nancy Schroder perform this month when
she reprises her solo role as Shirley Valentine.
The 47-year-old actor, who lives in West Auckland, received rave reviews and standing ovations in theatres around New
Zealand when she toured the country for three years until 2010 with Shirley Valentine.
The funny and poignant one-woman play, which was turned into an award-winning movie starring Pauline Collins in the late
1980s, was written by English playwright Willy Russell.
who also wrote Educating Rita.
Nancy, who first trained as a ballet dancer before pursuing an acting career, is doing three performances of the play on
August 26, 27 and 28 at Diocesan School for Girls in Epsom as a fundraiser for the independent all-girls school.
The lighting and set for the performances, including a beach scene in Greece, have been created by Michael Knapp ex
Opera Australia.

Nancy has worked in New Zealand for the last 25 years for companies including Auckland Theatre Company, Mercury Theatre,
the Court Theatre in Christchurch and Opera New Zealand. She had had leading roles in productions including Daughters of Heaven and Wind in the Willows at the Court Theatre, The Crucible at Mercury Theatre and Travesties at the Auckland Theatre Company.
