Inventive creatures take care of the universe
Andy Leleisi'uao_Lemead
Andy Leleisi’uao is an artist from South Auckland who has exhibited widely since the 1990s. For his exhibition at ROAR!
Andy has created an imaginative world inhabited by a series of strange but shy and loving cryptids. In describing the
one called ‘Lemead’ Andy notes…
“Whether reading poetry to birds, painting rainbows on rubic cubes and faded hearts, listening to a music box, hiding
behind a mask, watering a flower or pondering over a missing piece of a heart, everything Lemead experiences is with
gentleness and compassion.”
Other creatures perform mysterious and ‘wonder-filled’ tasks, painting stars in the sky, painting the moon and sun every
morning and night or pumping clouds with air.
In addition Pablos Studios are holding their first water-colour exhibition to celebrate the relationship the studio has
with well-known Wellington painter Brian Carmody. ‘See the Paint Move’ includes work created during a recent series of
workshops and describes the approach Brian has taken in helping artists to explore the medium in their own unique ways
while paying attention to the qualities of the paint.
Join us at ROAR! gallery near the corner of Vivian and Victoria Streets on the opening night, Thursday 11 August, 5.30 –
7pm to meet the artist/s and share a glass of wine.
All welcome.
