Ellerslie Theatrical Society presents the
AMI Ellerslie One Act Play Festival 2011
25 August to 3 September 2011
Comedy . Tragedy . Suspense . Romance
You might find all of these genres in the third biennial AMI Ellerslie One Act Play Festival presented by Ellerslie Theatrical Society running from the 25th of August through to the 3rd of September at the Stables Theatre. This festival has become a highly coveted venue for playwrights to submit original works and as a mentoring event for new directors.
This year six plays, including five locally written premières, have been selected from a number of submissions with three plays being performed at each show. One-acts plays contain various themes, each accomplishing its own level of relevance with efficient use of dialogue and technical elements. Actors, directors and playwrights have been busy crafting these brilliant plays with an independent spirit into works of art that invoke laughter, compassion and inspiration. The result is a journey of emotions, making for a tremendously entertaining festival.
Book two shows to see all six plays.

This play, written by April Phillips, won the 2010 Playwrights Assn. of N.Z. one act play competition. “It’s funny, it’s witty” say director Kevin Murray.
‘Roleplay’, written and directed by David Blakey, is the opening play for Group B. This comedy starts with a rehearsal of TV Soap Albert Street Law. ‘The Spare Room’ follows, written and directed by Maggie Maxwell, with the revelations about a flatmate given a room by a recently widowed woman.
