New Single & Video Release, and a New Name for Young Lyre
A New Single & Video Release, and a New
Name
Young Lyre Prove How Name Changing is as
Necessary as Puberty.
It seems that keeping a band name is like being in a relationship. You just don’t want the same thing you wanted when you were 15.
Auckland-based band, The Frisk has evolved for the last time into ‘Young Lyre’ just in time to hit music screens with their debut video release for single, Cinema Smile.
The video premiered on U-Live on Sunday and marks the new identity for the band that has already caught the eyes of a large teenage following already.

The five piece got their start making robust tunes competing in the Smokefree Rockquest years ago and now, three names later, and an array of live performances under their more matured belts, they evolve for the last time into ‘Young Lyre’.
“Young Lyre was
floated as an idea ages ago, but at the time our musical
direction was spilling over all kinds of genres and sounds.
This year has been massive for us, we've grown heaps as a
band and we're unraveling the old mystery of what our sound
is. The name instantly resonated with all of us and we knew
it was a name that felt good. The Lyre bird itself is pretty
crazy, and altogether the name somehow carries the vibe we
feel with the band.“ says backing vocalist and guitarist,
Kiran.
During their time, they have opened for international acts such as Green Day and Train as well as a handful of popular local acts in towns all across New Zealand. But the real essence of Young Lyre is their live performance.
The creative streak that drives them gets stronger with every song written. Some high caliber musical heroes lurk in the background of their tempting tunes, from the groundbreaking Radiohead, Sigur Ros & Phoenix, to the catchy wizardry of Kings of Leon, Bloc Party and The Strokes. Put all this together and you get melodic, punchy, toe-tapping, high-energy songs which make their presence felt in a lively stage show.” say writers for undertheradar
And its not only New Zealanders that are keeping their ears pricked, UK based producers have also expressed an interest in the band, which raises the hopes of the lads in light of the success other Kiwi bands have had overseas.
For 2011 Young Lyre have a few simple things in mind – open for some serious international acts, play more places in New Zealand, finish their EP and play at NZ Fashion Week. Just a small year.
