Visitation Numbers High for Your Face Here Exhibition

The doors may have closed on the Otago Museum’s special exhibition, Your Face Here, but the total number of visitors through the show in its five months at the Museum show just how popular the show was. With more than 145,000 visits made to the exhibition, which ran from 18 December 2010 – July 2011, Your Face Here has been one of the Museum’s most popular special exhibitions ever.

Created by the Otago Museum team, Your Face Here focused on our most recognisable body part, and allows visitors to age, merge and beautify their own face to make themselves part of the exhibition – something that was an integral part of the exhibition’s success. The exhibition also featured hundreds of faces from the Museum’s collection including marvellous masks from across the globe, and a range of faces on everything from ancient ceramics to Thomas the Tank Engine.

Visitor comments about the show included:

• “Outstanding faces exhibition. Perfect combination of doing and viewing.”
• “Your Face Here was fantastic – really interesting, informative and super hands on and fun!”
• “The faces exhibition is wonderful – fun for all ages (I’m 53)!”

Your Face Here is a credit to the Otago Museum team and what we are capable of achieving” says Clare Wilson, Director – Experience and Development. “We are extremely proud to have created this hugely popular exhibition for our community, and to have offered it to our visitors free of charge.”
