Fastest Pie Wins

18 July 2011 – For immediate release

Fastest Pie Wins

To celebrate all that is good about the Kiwi meat pie, Hamilton bakery The Pie Men is hosting the inaugural The Pie Men National Pie Eating Champs on Friday, 19 August 2011, with support from event venue the Cock & Bull pub and The Rock FM radio station.

To mark the occasion The Pie Men declare the day as New Zealand’s first ever National Pie Day, to be held annually on the third Friday in August.

Entries open on 25 August for the competition which will determine New Zealand’s fastest (single) pie eater in a series of timed knock-out heats, with more up for grabs than just bragging rights. The winner will also receive a year’s supply of free pies from The Pie Men, or equivalent food product.

Would-be pie eaters can register to compete via the bakery’s website www.thepiemen.co.nz or complete an entry form in-store at The Pie Men, 57 Mahana Road, Hamilton. Entry is free but entrants must be at least 18 years of age and agree to the competition rules, and terms and conditions. Entries close 10 August 2011 after which qualifying entrants will be contacted.

Spectators are also welcome to come and watch the pastry fly at this fun event from 5.30pm on Friday, 19 August 2011 at the Cock & Bull, corner of Maui Street and Church Road in Te Rapa, Hamilton.

The Pie Men is a family owned and operated retail and wholesale bakery that represents two generations of experience in the business. The nephew-uncle team of manager Mathew Toms and baker Wayne Andrews are proud to offer quality food at competitive prices, and work hard to ensure their customers enjoy eating their products as much as they do making them.
