Nelson Winter Music Festival—July 9-24 2011

Nelson Winter Music Festival—July 9-24 2011

The Nelson Winter Music Festival is in its last week with plenty of variety yet to come.

School of Music manager Frances McElhinney says she is really pleased with the way the way the festival is going, in terms of ticket sales and the response to shows.

“The Nelson Symphony Orchestra performance on Saturday night was the fifth show to reach sell out status, with solo violinist Jenny Banks wowing the audience with her mastery of the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto,” she says. “I really encourage people to become part of the buzz - there are still tickets to Michael Endres playing Schubert on our new Steinway on Thursday night, to the Saguaro Trio on Saturday afternoon and to Tic Tic, Paul Barrett’s funny but touching walk through his own experience with Tourette’s on Saturday night.”

The Lizard Kings’ tribute to The Doors has sold out but will be back for two repeat concerts in September, and the Dave Dobbyn finale is also sold out.

Ms McElhinney points out that Day’s car park is open for concert-goers to use during evening shows.

The Nelson Winter Music Festival runs until July 24, and has received sponsorship from the Nelson Events Marketing and Development Programme, funded by the Nelson City Council. The programme’s objective is to stimulate Nelson city’s economy in the shoulder and off-peak season by bringing visitors to Nelson for events.

More info & ticket bookings are available at www.nelsonwinterfestival.co.nz or at the School of Music booking office in Nile Street, phone 03 548 9477.
