5th Annual “Bowman-Todd” Memorial Rugby Match To Held In Waikanae On Saturday July 16
The 5th Annual Bowman-Todd Memorial rugby match will be held in Waikanae on Saturday July 16 at 1.30 pm: NZ Police vs
Waikanae Rugby Club.
This annual rugby game has raised more than $15,000 for charity. The Bowman-Todd Rugby match is in remembrance of two
young Wellington friends, Matt Todd and Dave Bowman, who both lost their battles with brain tumours in 2006 within five
weeks of each other. They left behind young families.
Dave Bowman was a Police Sergeant and Matt, the husband of Rebecca Todd, a police sergeant. Both men were cared for in
their final days at Mary Potter Hospice’s Inpatient Unit in Newtown. They both enjoyed rugby and the idea for the event
grew from there. The first Bowman-Todd Memorial was in 2007.
Saturday’s event includes a barbecue and a bouncy castle. At 4pm there will be speeches in the Clubrooms and at 5pm a
prize giving at the Waikanae Hotel. The Waikanae Hotel will be featuring an evening of classic rock.
“The annual Bowman-Todd charity rugby game has been very successful over the years,” says Hospice spokesperson Graham
Ford, “and Mary Potter Hospice has been very fortunate to be one of the charities receiving funds from this event. Money
raised from the game goes towards keeping the Hospice’s services free for the people of Wellington.”
