This quarter’s report focuses on the challenges and opportunities currently facing the Chilean wine sector. Overall, Chilean wine exports appear healthy. Bottled wine export volumes were up nearly 17% and pricing was up nearly 7% in the first four months of 2011 compared to the same period in 2010.
For New Zealand, the report says the NZ Winegrowers Association estimates that the 2011 harvest increased markedly by 23% to 328,000 tonnes. The result was driven by strong yields and a young vineyard estate that continues to mature.
The annual value of New Zealand wine exports fell 6%, while volumes declined 10% in Q1 2011. The moving annual total bottled wine export unit value increased for the first time in more than two years in response to higher monthly bottled wine pricing and a lower proportion of bulk wine trade.
