Local 'terror raids' film "makes the cut"

Local 'terror raids' film Operation 8 has been selected to screen at the 60th Melbourne International Film Festival this month. The A-list festival is one of the oldest in the world, where organisers state; "Only the best films make the cut".

Errol Wright & Abi King-Jones' independent feature documentary Operation 8 will screen as a part of the festivals documentary programme alongside a line-up of top documentaries from around the world, including Morgan Spurlock's (Supersize Me) The Greatest Movie Ever Sold, Alex Gibney's Client 9: The Rise and Fall of Elliot Spitzer & Armadillo by Janus Metz.

The filmmakers say; "We are honoured to be included in the festival and are excited at the prospect of international audiences seeing the film. Operation 8 has received excellent reviews & feedback locally, and we had hoped the film would get a wide audience. The raids that occurred here in 2007 are a part of trend that has swept most Western countries in the aftermath of 9/11 and the anti-terrorism legislation that followed. The film raises serious issues that need to be debated and discussed". Operation 8 also screened last week at the Agitprop International Film Festival on Peoples' Struggles in the Philippines.

The film is currently showing in cinemas in Wellington, Auckland, Martinborough, Methven & Whangarei as it continues it's general release, following the premiere at The World Cinema Showcase festival in April.

The Melbourne International Film Festival has a rich history celebrating 60 years in 2011. Since its commencement in 1951, MIFF has developed into Australia's largest film event and is one of Australia's most significant public events.
