Saint Clair Winemaker Hamish Clark Rises to the Challenge
Family owned Marlborough winery Saint Clair Family Estate has announced the promotion of Hamish Clark to join Matt Thomson as joint winemakers, heading the Saint Clair winemaking team. Both Matt and Hamish have been an integral part of the Saint Clair success story with Matt being involved since its inception in 1994 and Hamish joining the team and working alongside Matt since 2001.
Matt Thomson, who is internationally recognised and respected, will take the position of Wine Consultant and Hamish will continue in his present hands-on Winemaking role. The joint position formalises a very successful working relationship which has evolved over the last ten years, and has been integral in the success of Saint Clair Family Estate, resulting in hundreds of awards both nationally and internationally.
Hamish Clark graduated from Otago University in 1997 and has worked in various positions overseas including as a Forensic Scientist at Scotland Yard, before returning to his home town of Blenheim and joining the Saint Clair family as Cellar Hand and Laboratory Manager in 2001.
Matt Thomson comments “I am very proud of the team we have at Saint Clair. Hamish has been a vital part of the Saint Clair family for many years and has made a huge contribution to the companys success. I have enormous respect for Hamish as a winemaker and as a person. We have worked together every year on all the wines, along with the rest of the talented winemaking team at Saint Clair. While Im happy to take credit for assembling a fantastic team, I cannot take credit for what they accomplish.”
