Junica Release Debut EP Today
MONDAY JULY 4TH
Junica Promo 3
Welcome to Junica - the mystical pop world of Wellington's Nik Brinkman. It's a place populated by shimmery stars and pyramids; taking inspirations from relationships to space ships, Nik melds melancholy with optimism in the way that only great pop music can.
Nik wrote the EP in Los Angeles, London and Stockholm with such luminaries as Peter Moren (Peter, Bjorn, and John), Emanuel Lundgren (I'm From Barcelona), and Tim Anderson (Ima Robot, Dead Man's Bones).
The first single 'Living In My House' (already an alternative radio Top 5 single in New Zealand, and now a Top 40 airplay hit) features longtime friend Pip Brown, and recorded at Peter Gabriel's Real World Studio in Wiltshire, England. A studio used by artists as diverse as Kanye West, Beyonce, Sade and New Order - they were in fine company.
Evolved from a childhood listening to The Church, Cocteau Twins, The Cure and Kate Bush - Nik is no stranger to making music - formerly he was the frontman with indie-darlings Over The Atlantic who completed a forty date US tour with Beach House in 2006 and toured with Ladyhawke in 2009. Nik feels he spent that time figuring out how to make the brand of pop music he had in his head a reality, and thus, Junica (taking it's name from the title of Over The Atlantic's debut album) was born - ready to embrace, and be embraced by a wider musical community.
The debut Junica EP is released through Dryden Street/DRM today, July 4th 2011 with a full length album to follow later this year.
